The Holy Prophet Elijah’s Church in the village of Kamenica was built around 1920 as a memorial church. When it comes to its architecture, it is very plain – it has a single nave on the outside, but on the inside, the main nave is split into three pseudo-naves: the main wide one and two side narrow ones. There are four pillars supporting the dome in the centre. The original church didn’t have a dome – it was added during the reconstruction in 1884-1887 together with an outside narthex. There are paintings and a wooden iconostasis by unknown authors on the walls of the church.
The church in Kamenica is called a memorial church because numerous memorial plaques dedicated to the people who died in the wars for the liberation of Serbia are placed on its walls, both outside and inside. Besides, there are also plaques put by some wealthy families so that their ancestors’ souls may rest in peace.
