The Symposium in honor of Saint Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, organized by the Valjevo Diocese on October 21, 2023 concluded with the opening of our exhibition “Mati Ana Adžić: Spiritual Child of Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović” in the gallery of the Museum of Homeland Writers in Valjevo.The morning session featured Dr. Miloš Ković and Dr. Snežana Adamović, who discussed Saint Bishop Nikolaj’s views on the theology and religion of Bishop Njegoš. In the afternoon, Protodeacon Dr. Ljubomir Ranković delivered a deeply emotional address, sharing unique biographical insights into Bishop Nikolaj’s life.Following a lecture, all participants, led by Bishop Isihije, visited the Museum of Homeland Writers in Valjevo for the opening of an exhibition dedicated to Mati Ana Adžić. Violeta Milošević, director of the Valjevo Library, welcomed guests, emphasizing the significance of the library and museum. Historian Aleksandar Marušić then highlighted the importance of Bishop Nikolaj to the region, connecting his visits with the figure of Božidar Terzić, a general and former Minister of War.
Vesna Ćurčić, a senior curator and co-author of the exhibition, spoke about the life of Mati Ana (born Nada Adžić). She detailed Ana’s childhood, her philanthropic work in Belgrade, Bitolj, and Trstenik, and how her faith and strength elevated Vraćešnica Monastery into one of the most beautiful women’s monasteries, still guided by her principles today.
