In the area known as Jovanje in Donji Branetići, which borders the village of Ozrem, there is one of the most beautiful churches in the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac. According to one folktale, it was built in the exact same place of the former log-cabin church, according to another in the place of the former brick church, and the other folktale in the place of a former medieval monastery. The existence of the past holy altar table testifies to that fact.
The exact construction date of the present-day church is not established precisely, but what is known is that Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović consecrated it in 1935. It belongs to a cross-in-square type of building with a sophisticated octagonal dome at the intersection of two naves and a trilateral apse. Ashlar was used as a building material. The west façade has a very interesting design. The main entrance is roofed over with an arch-shaped construction supported by two pillars with capitals, on top of which there is a small roof with a stone cross. To the side part of the entrance, one can see two bricked-up arched windows, whereas there is a triple window above the central space, the type which is present in Russian church architecture. It was made in a way to have the “shape” of an angel with wings: the middle part represents a stylized body with a head, and two side openings represent wings. Two more such windows are located on the north and the south façade of the church. The iconostasis of the church in Jovanje, which is carved in wood, dates back to the time when the church was built. Icons of the unknown painter were done in a traditional way.
