How we welcomed Comrade Tito

From a certain distance in time, historians can pass their judgment on significant historical events. They include the visits of important people to certain regions, and as we deal with the history of the Rudnica-Takov region, our work is also dedicated to this region. Precisely because of this, on Thursday we dedicate the evening to Tito’s visits to Gornji Milanovac, one of which took place on October 2, exactly 60 years ago. Tito visited our region in 1951 and 1974. The lecture will be held by the senior curator, historian Aleksandar Marušić, and for the preparation of the presentation, an abundance of photographs, archival materials, especially from the Archives of Yugoslavia, which have only recently become available to the public, were used. The press, the oral testimonies of the actors of Tito’s visits were processed, and all this will be the basis for further research. The lecture will talk about the motives of the visits, their organization, the atmosphere that reigned in our municipality, and Aleksandar Marušić will also refer to the visits of all Serbian and Yugoslav rulers to these areas, starting from Karađorđe to Josip Broz Tito.

The lecture is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m., in the auditorium of the House of Serbian-Norwegian Friendship.
