The present-day grammar school is located in “Dom Miloša Velikog” (“Miloš the Great Home”), which was built as a memorial to prince Miloš Obrenović in 1902 owing to the voluntary contributions paid by the citizens of Rudnik region as well as the whole Serbia. Even though grammar school is a general-programme secondary school founded in Gornji Milanovac on 17 August 1879, since its founding to 1902 the school didn’t have its own building, but instead used private houses in the town, which didn’t usually meet basic conditions for holding regular classes.
Grammar school’s building was erected in record time as “Dom Miloša Velikog” according to Nikola Nestorović’s (who was one of the greatest in the history of Serbian architecture) architectural design. Nestorović designed a one-storey building of symetrical foundation and exterior in the style of a “peaceful Renaissance Revival” by applying his academic knowledge with general strictness and symmetry. It had a ground floor and first floor with 16 rooms and a stateroom. However, classes were held there for the first time in 1912, when (fourth-degree) grammar school was re-opened in the town. In 1939, the building was expanded according to Pavle Đorđević’s design by adding another symmetrical wing, which was a copy of the original building.
