Madžarsko brdo

Madžarsko brdo

At the foot of Mala Kelja, there are remains of an aisle-less church with an apse overlooking the East. It was made from crushed stone and mortar, with interior dimensions of 6.50 x 3.70m. The bigger part of the altar was damaged owing to the vicinity of an active quarry. The remains of paintings found in rubble testify to the fact that the church was painted.

It was most probably an endowment of a renowned family from Rudnik. The west part of the church was used for burying the deceased following the order of their rights as founders.

It was explored completely in the period between 2009 and 2011, as a part of the project “Archaeological explorations in Rudnik” by the Museum of Rudnik and Takovo Region from Gornji Milanovac. The research was financed by the Municipality of Gornji Milanovac and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.
